What this site collects, what it does not, and why there is so little of it
Scope of This Policy
This policy describes how information is handled on hartzer.net. It applies to this website only. It does not cover any other site, including sites linked from here and other sites operated by the same author, each of which has its own terms and its own handling.
Hartzer.net is a static site: the pages are generated in advance as plain HTML files and served as files. There is no application logic running per visitor, no user database, and no login. There are no accounts to create, no profiles stored, and no personalization. Most of what a privacy policy usually has to explain simply does not exist here, and the shortest honest description of this site's data practice is that it is built to need very little.
Information Collected Automatically
Like effectively every website, this one is delivered by a web server, and web servers keep logs. A standard server log entry may record the requesting IP address, the date and time of the request, the page or file requested, the HTTP status code returned, the referring URL if the browser sent one, and the browser's user-agent string (the text a browser sends identifying itself and the operating system it runs on).
These records exist for operational reasons — diagnosing errors, identifying abusive traffic, and understanding load. They are not used to build a profile of you, are not combined with other data sets to identify anyone, and are not sold. Retention follows the hosting provider's ordinary log rotation rather than any separate schedule maintained for this site.
Requests to this site also pass through the hosting provider's infrastructure and any content delivery or security layer in front of it. Those providers keep their own logs under their own policies, which are outside the control of this site.
Information You Choose to Send
The contact page carries a form. If you use it, the information collected is whatever you type into it — typically a name, an email address and a message — plus the technical request details described above. It is used to read and, if warranted, reply to the message. It is not added to a mailing list, not used for marketing, and not passed to third parties for their own purposes.
Send only what is necessary. This is a public website reached over the ordinary internet, not a secure channel, and no confidentiality or privilege attaches to anything transmitted through it. Do not send confidential case material, evidence, documents subject to a protective order, financial account details, or credentials of any kind. If a matter requires a confidential channel, it belongs in a professional engagement, not in a web form.
Cookies, Analytics and Embedded Content
This site does not require cookies to function, and it does not set cookies to identify or track you across sessions or across other websites. There is no advertising network on it and no behavioral targeting.
Analytics may be added at some point to measure aggregate traffic — which pages are read, roughly where visitors arrive from, which errors are being hit. If and when that happens, an analytics provider may set its own cookie or similar identifier under its own privacy policy, and this section will be updated to name what is in use. Where an analytics tool offers IP anonymization or an equivalent minimization setting, the intent is to use it.
Any content embedded from a third party — should any appear on a future page — is loaded by your browser directly from that third party, which means that party can see the request. Embedded content is avoided for exactly that reason.
Choices Available to You
Because this site holds no accounts and builds no profiles, most of the controls you might expect are exercised in the browser rather than here.
- Block or clear cookies. Every current browser can refuse cookies by site or clear them entirely. This site continues to work with cookies disabled.
- Send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals. These are honored to the extent any tool in use responds to them, though industry support for such signals is inconsistent and should not be relied on as a sole protection.
- Use network-level controls. A VPN, a privacy-focused DNS resolver or a tracker-blocking extension limits what any site, including this one, can see.
- Ask about a message you sent. If you contacted this site and want the message deleted, say so through the contact form and identify it well enough to be found.
No statement of compliance with any particular privacy statute or regulatory regime is made here. Legal obligations vary by jurisdiction and change; describing actual practice accurately is more useful than asserting a compliance status.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be revised — most likely if analytics are introduced, if the hosting arrangement changes, or if a function is added to the site that collects something new. Revisions take effect when they are published on this page. There is no notification mechanism, because there is no subscriber list to notify.
Continued use of the site after a revision is published constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. If a change matters to you, the practical step is to re-read this page before sending anything through the contact form.
